September 28, 2023, 96, Mount Olive —
Leonard Luther “Bud” Price, Jr., resident of the White Flash community near Mount Olive, passed away early Thursday morning, September 28, 2023, at his home. He was 96 years of age.
A hard-working man for all of his life, Mr. Price had been a farmer and had also been a home builder and a painter, and for his expert assistance, he was often sought after in many area hog-killings.
Funeral services will be held by the graveside on Sunday, October 1, at 2 p.m. at the Pineview Cemetery near Seven Springs. Officiating will be the Rev. Frank Harrison and the Rev. Kelvin Coates. Following the service, the family will greet friends and relatives at the cemetery and do so at the residence.
Mr. Price is survived by his wife, Ava Gray Waters Price, to whom he had been married for nearly 75 years; two sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Mary Price, and Kevin and Christy Price, all of the Mount Olive area; grandchildren, La Donna P. Coates and husband, Todd, of Avery County, NC, Robbie D. Price and wife, Bridgett, Ozzie Price, and Hannah Price, all of the Mount Olive area; great-grandchildren, Tiffany Wooten and husband, Ethan, Corey Bostic and wife, Rachel, Casey Schlapak, Marlena Price, Charles Price, Beckham Coates, Joshua Coates, Michael Coates, Julianna Coates, Samantha Duff, and Shane Duff; great-great-grandchildren, Ruthie Wooten Emma Schlapak, Tucker Schlapak, Madalynn Bostic, Meradith Butler, Jase Duff, Kaytee Duff, Carter Thomas, Cason Thomas, and Brinleigh Rollins. Also surviving is a sister, Annette P. Taylor of Grantham; a brother, Worden Price of Raleigh; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Waters Whitfield of the Greenville area, formerly of Mount Olive.
He was preceded in death by a son, Charlie Price; his mother, Ethel Mercer Price; father, Leonard Luther Price; step-mother, Maybelle Hardy Price; and sisters, Marjorie P. Hinson and Jean P. Willis.
