October 14, 2023, 96, La Grange —
August 10, 1927 – October 14, 2023
Ruby Minton Hale, 96, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023. Ruby was born in Duplin County to the late Bob and Eula Houston Minton on August 10, 1927. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ramsey Ellis Hale; son, Bruce Myron Hale; and siblings, Margaret Clark and Robert Minton.
Ruby devoted her life to the care of her family. She tried her best to maintain connections with all of them, taking an interest in their lives and showing her constant support. A great cook, she looked forward to every opportunity to gather her family around the kitchen table to share in food and conversation.
With a love of travel, Ruby especially enjoyed trips with her granddaughter, Emily. The two took many excursions, including a cruise, trips to the mountains, and the coast. Las Vegas was also a favorite destination for Ruby and Ramsey in earlier years. Having lived at the beach for 25 years, Ruby’s place of contentment was undoubtedly near the water.
After moving to La Grange in 1984, Ruby found a church home with the congregation of La Grange Christian Church. There, she served her Lord faithfully for nearly 40 years. As the oldest member of the church, Ruby had many lasting friendships and deep connections with her church family.
Friendship with Ruby was easy. Possessing a sweet and kind personality, she made sure to keep in contact with her friends through regular phone calls and visits. Her circle of friends was evidenced each year by the abundance of Christmas cards she received.
A service to honor and remember Ruby’s life will be held at her church, La Grange Christian Church, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 17, 2023. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to service. Entombment will follow the service at Pinelawn Memorial Park.
For Ruby, her greatest joy was family. Left to cherish her memory is her son, Larry Hale, and wife, Judy; granddaughter, Emily Hale Pettit, and husband, Todd; niece, Virginia Bartlett and husband, Gary; and her grand-cat, Puck, and grand-dog, Janie Noel.
An extension of Ruby’s family was the family of her daughter-in-law, Judy. Ruby was adopted by Judy’s family, for they loved her like a grandmother. Ruby’s memory will be long cherished by those family members: Leon Scott, Wayne Scott, and Betsy Sloan.
