Jack L. Jernigan, 85, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Somerset Court of Goldsboro. Born in the Bowden community of Duplin County on February 9, 1938, he was the son of the late Winfred H. Jernigan and Lucy Poythress Carter.
In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Alice Starling Jernigan; beloved daughter, Allison Leigh Jernigan; step-father, Seaton Carter; brothers, Winfred H. Jernigan, Jr. and Joseph F. Jernigan.
Jack is survived by his son, Jeffrey Lee Jernigan, and wife, Melinda; grandchildren, Joshua Lee Jernigan and wife, Mary Kathryn and Graham Scott Jernigan; and brother, Clifton Jernigan, and wife, Gail.
Jack graduated from Warsaw High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy on the aircraft carrier USS Hancock. He retired from TextiLease Uniform Corporation following 37 years of service. He was a member and past president of the Goldsboro Downtown Lions Club.
Jack enjoyed watching Tarheel basketball and Panther’s football on Sundays. He also enjoyed his Friday trips with Alice to Ken’s Grill in La Grange for their fish stew.
Jack was a dedicated and faithful member of the Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church.
A service to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church, 1000 E Ash St, Goldsboro, NC 27530, with Rev. Ronnie Heath officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Interment will be on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley.
