On Dec. 6, Wayne County Commissioner Chris Gurley was nominated by the Board of Commissioners to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners.

Commissioner Wayne Aycock was nominated to serve as the Vice-Chairman for the next year.

Commissioner Gurley joined the Board of Commissioners in November 2020. He has served in the volunteer fire service since 1984 and is a strong advocate for volunteer departments. Gurley is a lifelong resident of Wayne County and attended Charles B. Aycock High School and Wayne Community College.

Commissioner Aycock was elected to the Wayne County Board of Commissioners in December 2012 as the At-Large member. Aycock is a lifelong resident of the Nahunta community and an experienced businessman. Commissioner Aycock served on the Nahunta Fire Department and is a past president of the Wayne County Firefighters’ Association.
