Roger Douglas Sloan, known as Doug to most, passed away Sunday night, December 3, 2023, at UNC Johnston Hospital in Clayton.

Doug, 74, was a resident of the Goldsboro area.  He was a native of Charleston, West Virginia, and was the son of the late Frederick Joseph Sloan, Jr. and Billie Ann Turley Sloan.  He was one of their four sons.

Doug had served in the United States Air Force, after which he became employed with Wayne County Public Schools in its maintenance department, working with refrigeration, heating, and air systems.  Later, he would venture into private business, using those same skills as a sole proprietor.  Doug also enjoyed working with the peach orchard on the Garner Farm.

Surviving him are a daughter, Felicia Sloan Worrell and husband, Clay Worrell; a son, Adam Garner Sloan and wife, Windy Williams Sloan; and three grandchildren, Liam Claven Sloan, Felicity Ann Worrell, and Zoey Ann Worrell, all of the Goldsboro area; and his former wife and the mother of their children, Phyllis Garner Sloan Herring, a native of the Garner’s Chapel community near Mount Olive, and now of Goldsboro.

Visitation will be on Thursday, December 7, from 5 until 7 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home in Mount Olive.  Funeral services will be held at East Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Goldsboro at a date to be announced.
