December 13, 2023, 93, Goldsboro —
Robert Lindsay Fleming, 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Embraced in the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, Robert is now surrounded by the great cloud of witnesses that has gone on before him, including his beloved wife, Audrey, and many other loved ones and friends.
Born on May 19, 1930, in Grimesland, North Carolina, Robert was one of six children to the late Roscoe and Cadie Fleming. Adulthood saw him pursue a career in the banking industry and later transitioned to becoming the finance director with Carolina Power and Light Company. There, he devoted his time and talents for 21 years. Following his work with CP&L, Robert continued working in the role of general manager and part owner of Bobby Floars Toyota in Goldsboro. Up until 5 years ago, he played an active role as owner and operator of the company he started in 1960, Fleming Rentals.
Robert was a charter member of Faith Free Will Baptist Church where he faithfully served his Lord and the congregation as Sunday School Superintendent, deacon, and school board member of Faith Christian Academy.
His happy place was Bedford, Virginia – Peaks of Otter Lodge. There, he spent many years and loved taking family and friends to share with them his love of the Blue Ridge Mountains and his mountain home. With no particular destination in mind, Robert could be found exploring unknown gravel mountain roads, often leading him to a good country restaurant.
He married his wife, Audrey Bartlett, on May 15, 1954, and the two were blessed with 52 years of marriage before her passing on February 19, 2007. Robert is survived by his daughters, Wanda Fleming Parker and husband Larry and Leah Fleming Perry and husband Macon; three grandchildren, Brianne Parker Simpson and husband Casey, Dr. Nathaniel Parker and Laci Perry; and great-granddaughter, Sloane Audrey Simpson.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 15, 2023, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of Faith Free Will Baptist Church followed by a service to celebrate Robert’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Rev.
