Kenneth Gage “Kenny” Harrison

December 16, 2023, 80, La Grange —

June 11, 1943 – December 16, 2023

Kenneth Gage “Kenny” Harrison, 80, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023. Kenny was born in Lenoir County to the late Raymond Albert and Annie Laurie Mozingo on June 11, 1943. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by seven siblings, Ray Harrison, Jr., Max Harrison, Millard Harrison, Nathan Harrison, Pat Harrison, Buck Harrison, and Dixie Maier.

Kenny faithfully served his country in the United States Marines. Following his honorable discharge, he began farming and running his own business into his mid-thirties, before working for Caswell Center where he retired after many years of service.

Home was a place of great joy for Kenny. Always wanting a cabin in the mountains but needing to stay close to home, Kenny found one of the few hills in Lenoir County and cleared the land himself to build his log cabin. Next to his home was always a large vegetable garden, and from its bounteous harvest, many people were fed. Kenny simply enjoyed raising the vegetables and was happy to share his abundance with anyone. It didn’t take much to keep Kenny happy. As long as he had a good cup of coffee and a cigarette to go with it, he was doing fine.

A service of love and remembrance will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Hull Road OFWB Church. The family will receive friends at the church in the hour prior to service. Committal with military honors will follow at Snow Hill Cemetery.

Kenny is survived by his children, Jesse Harrison and wife, Shelby, Kim Thigpen and husband, Furnie, Kevin Harrison and wife, Charlotte, and Dixie Harrison; grandchildren, Noah Harrison, Nicholas Harrison, Janna Kelly and husband, Will, Luke Thigpen, Savannah Harrison, Ainsley Harrison, and Olivia Harrison; the mother of his children, Judy Harrison; and a sister, Sue Phelps.
