Michael Owen Whaley, 81, passed away on Monday, December 18, 2023, at his home. Born in Wayne County on January 20, 1942, he was the son of the late Owen Franklin and Christine Davis Whaley.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his sister, Maxine Sasser, and her husband, Glen.

Michael is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hall Whaley; daughter, Michele Whaley Jones and husband, Don; and granddaughters, Taylor Alexandra Jones and Lauren Elizabeth Jones.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army.

Michael had worked as a barber for many years. He also worked for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department and Cutter Laboratories.

A service to celebrate Michael’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 22, 2023, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
