MOUNT OLIVE — Wayne Country Day captured its second consecutive Greater Neuse Fellowship of Christian Athletes Winter Classic Championship with a 65-51 victory over Wayne Christian on Friday night inside Kornegay Arena on the University of Mount Olive campus. 

The defending tournament champion Chargers won the Winter Classic for the fifth time in the 11th year of the event. Wayne Christian suffered its first loss of the season while appearing in the finals of the Winter Classic for the first time. 

Wayne Country Day senior Kayleb Coles was named the tournament’s most valuable player and was selected to the all-tournament team along with Charger junior Jaelen Solomon. 

Wayne Christian’s Eli Anderson was named to the all-tournament first-team team. The Eagles’ Jackson Fox was a second-team selection

James Kenan defeated Wayne Prep 57-52 in the third-place game. The Tigers’ Stephone Stanley and the Generals’ Isaiah Thomas were named to the all-tournament first team. 

Eastern Wayne earned a 69-60 win over Southern Wayne in the fifth-place game. The Warriors’ Izeiah Oates and the Saints’ Chris Carmon were chosen to the all-tournament second team. 

Rosewood knocked off Carolina 1-A Conference rival North Duplin 59-50 in the seventh-place game. The Eagles’ David Lamm and the Rebels’ Dujuan Armwood were both named to the all-tournament second team.
