December 25, 2023, 80, Mount Olive —
Martha Hall Turner, 80, a Mount Olive area resident, received the ultimate Christmas gift — she was called home to Glory on Christmas Day, 2023.
Martha was the ultimate servant, always making herself available to take friends and neighbors to places they needed to go. She was involved with the Meals on Wheels program and volunteered at the food pantry. Martha was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Mount Olive where she was a member of the church choir, was active in Women’s Ministries, kept the nursery, and was available to fill in at any time in any capacity needed.
Martha had been employed in area sewing factories, had been employed with Wayne County Schools at Carver Elementary as a physical education instructor, and had been employed at A P Parts and as a daycare provider. In her retirement years, she still maintained a presence in caring for home-bound area folks.
A service to celebrate Martha’s life of Christian service will be held Thursday, December 28, at 6:00 p.m. at the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Mount Olive, and will be officiated by Pastor Jeff Dail, with a time of visitation to follow. It is requested that memorial gifts be made to the church, 130 Ed Edmundson Road, Mount Olive, NC 28365.
Martha is survived by her grandchildren, Blake Turner and his wife, Bryona, of Goldsboro, Devin Turner and her companion, Chris, of La Grange; their mother, Ella Turner of Mount Olive; a great-grandchild, Brooklyn Turner of Goldsboro; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Patricia Turner of Mount Olive; sister-in-law, Roselee Hall of Mount Olive; and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are several church friends and their families who were there for Martha and M.D. in their moments of needing someone the most. These kind people know who they are, and God saw their deeds.
Loved ones who preceded Martha in death include her husband, Matthew D. “M.D.” Turner; their son, Ricky Turner; her parents, Ed Carr Hall and Irene Martin Hall; and three brothers, Edward Hall, Harry Hall, and George Ira Hall.
