Goldsboro, NC (GDN) – On December 29, 2023, at approximately 9:40 p.m., Deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division were dispatched to a reported breaking and entering that had already occurred at a residence located at 877 Big Daddys Road in Northern Wayne County. According to the press release, the individual who called in the breaking and entering also notified Wayne County 911 that a male known to the caller was found unresponsive inside the residence and was bleeding.

 After arriving on the scene, responding deputies discovered a male identified as 39- 39-year-old Robert Lee Mitchell inside the residence with an apparent gunshot wound. Wayne County EMS responded to the scene and after examining the victim, declared him deceased.

Detectives with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office were notified, responded to the scene, and began their investigation. The body of the deceased was transported to Wayne UNC Healthcare to be later transported to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
