Margie Corder (79) of Goldsboro, passed away in her home on December 29th. She was born Margaret Mary Brodka on July 29, 1944, to Francis Brodka and Helen Smith Brodka in Baltimore, MD. She was the youngest of three children. Her sister, Theresa Brodka Riebel, lives in Baltimore. Her brother, Francis Brodka, of Summerville, SC, preceded her in death earlier this year.
Margie married Hubert (Herb) Corder in May of 1969. Together, they raised their two daughters, Jacqueline (Jackie) Corder Kennedy & Jennifer (Jenny) Corder Carroll. Jackie and her husband, Kevin Kennedy, have two children: Rhiannon (Annie) Kennedy and Aidan Kennedy. Jenny has a son, (Benjamin) Davis Carroll. Herb preceded Margie in death in 2009. Margie’s grandkids adored the cards and silly gifts their gramma liked to send to them for birthdays & Christmas. She will be missed.
Margie was known by many as a funny and generous friend. She was creative in many ways. Margie was particularly talented as a decorative painter and seamstress. From the time her girls were young, she enjoyed making clothing and nightgowns for them. She created beautiful handmade Halloween costumes, even when her daughters just wanted the store-bought costumes their friends were wearing. As teenagers, Margie made beautiful formal gowns for Jackie & Jenny and flower girl dresses for Jackie’s wedding.
Margie had a tender heart for animals and had several unusual pets throughout her lifetime. As a young woman, she kept a pet skunk named Tuffy. Jackie & Jenny remember her having guinea pigs, a hermit crab, a duck, and even a little orphaned squirrel. Of course, there were also cats and dogs. Margie rescued a sweet dog, Pumpkin, who had been her faithful companion since being rescued from the shelter.
