September 16, 1941 – January 10, 2024

James Hardy Jones Sr. of Moss Hill, NC passed away on January 10, 2024. He was the son of Lawrence Hardy Jones and Nora Sumner Jones also of Moss Hill.

Mr. Jones is survived by his sons and their wives, James Hardy Jones Jr. and Kathleen of New Bern, NC, Donald Dwayne Jones and Amy of Fuquay Varina, NC; daughter Jamie Carol Martinez and Jose of Turkey, NC; grandchildren, Clay Hardy and Samuel Mitchiner Jones; Nicole, Hunter, Ezekiel and Everly Martinez; sister, Crystal Jones Rouse and Herbert.

James Hardy loved talking about his grandchildren. He was always sharing stories and updating the family on Nicole’s (“SweetPea”) latest and greatest activities. It didn’t matter whom he was carrying on a conversation with, he always asked about the spouse and family members. i.e. “How’s Kathleen doing?” or “How’s Amy, Sam, and Clay?” He always wanted to know what was going on in the lives of his family. He especially stayed close with his sisters, Peggy and Crystal.

James Hardy loved watching MLB baseball and could remember player stats, who won, the scores, which players hit home runs, teams on a winning streak, and what players were pitching well. He enjoyed the friendship he shared with his buddies as they gathered for a meal and a card game. Although James pretended to be neutral with the family in pulling for college teams NC State, Duke, and UNC, his favorite was UNC.

He was predeceased by his sister, Peggy Jones Huggins.

Visitation will be held at Rouse Funeral Home in LaGrange on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Holy Innocents Episcopal Church Cemetery in Seven Springs.
