Sarah Jane Gardner, 87, passed away on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at her home. Born in Wayne County on November 30, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Effie Lancaster Gardner.

In addition to her parents, Jane was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Gardner Dail.

Jane is survived by her nieces, Vickie Hawkins (Don) and Dannette Bunn (Hal Overby); great-nieces and nephews, Beth Spence (William), Lesley Voeller (Brian), Thomas Bunn; and great-great-nieces and nephews, Dail Spence, Cooper Voeller, Karsen Spence, Hayden Voeller, Bailey Voeller, Wyatt Bunn.

Jane was a retired teacher having worked in Civil Service on several Marine Corps Bases. She was a member of Mount Carmel Methodist Church.

A graveside service to celebrate Jane’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at the Pikeville Cemetery with Rev. Doug Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
