February 24, 2024, 72, Goldsboro —
Richard “RC” Cubala, 72, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his home surrounded by people he loved. Born in West Germany on March 16, 1951, Rich and his family moved to New Jersey looking to start a fresh life. As 1 of 5 children, RC was raised by a single mother who wanted nothing but the best for her family.
At a young age, RC taught himself to play guitar by listening to the music on vinyl records and playing by ear. As a young man, Rich enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he would become a member of the Navy Special Forces: Underwater Demolition Training team. As a Frogman, Rich traveled the world stationed aboard the USS John F. Kennedy, where he would consistently venture off the beaten path to create some of his fondest memories of great food and good times with even better people.
Following his service, RC used his eye for detail and passion for art to create a number of incredibly scenic and animal oil and watercolor paintings, which are currently on display at his house. He helped others find their passions and gave painting lessons, where they amazed themselves at what they were able to accomplish. He owned a successful picture-framing business before returning to school to complete an engineering degree. As an industrial engineer, he became an expert in fiber optics and heat-shrinking plastic where he custom-designed and sold his products, and trained everyone on how to use them.
Rich enjoyed the company of good people, and he was known for giving what he could to help those in need. He was a talented pool player and an avid soccer fan, and he looked forward to catching a game whenever he could. RC was greatly loved and will be sorely missed.
A private service for the family will be held at a later date.
Richard is survived by his son, Michael Kyle Overstreet; sisters, Diane Cubala Lewis and Barbara Brunner; nephews, Steven and William Torres, and their families; and additional family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
