March 5, 2024, 85, Goldsboro —
Elizabeth Jackson Daughtry, 85, passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at her home surrounded by family. She was born in Wayne County to the late Melvin and Annie Jackson on March 23, 1938. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin James Daughtry, Jr. and sister, Joyce Cox.
Elizabeth was a 1956 graduate of Goldsboro High School where she was a member of the cheerleading squad and was 1955-56 Varsity Sweetheart. As well as raising two children, she became a beloved teacher’s assistant with Wayne County Schools where she devoted her life to children for 19 years.
Elizabeth will be remembered by many for her love of life and its varied possibilities. She spent many of her healthy years helping people in need, often sacrificing her own needs so that others could live better.
For Elizabeth, there was no greater calling in life than to care for family. To care for her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was all Elizabeth desired. If they were happy and well, she was content. Her love for each was evident in her concern for them.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Elizabeth’s life at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel. Interment will be in Wayne Memorial Park.
Elizabeth is survived by her son, Benjamin James Daughtry, III of Oak Island; daughter, Sarah Daughtry of Goldsboro; adopted daughter, Barbara Doerter; grandchildren, Benjamin James Daughtry, IV and Emily Faith Ware along with her husband Charles and great-grandchildren Finley and Charlie; nephews, Ritchie Cox and T Griffin; and nieces, Johanna Cox and Margaret Bailey and more beloved pets than we can print. Elizabeth was also survived by a very important extended family. These ladies grew up together, lived full lives and reconvened as the “Galavanting Grannies”. Amelia Millard predeceased Elizabeth, surviving are Linda Turner, Lee Smith, Frances Allen, Patricia Bottoms, Ann Coker, Neta Kay Caudill and Mary Frank Keller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to the Children’s Hospital at UNC–Chapel Hill and Duke Children’s Hospital.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the compassionate care provided by her caregivers and friends, Meghann Walker and her children, Jakobe and Chole; Mary Davis, Treva Allen, Wanda Swaney and Debra Floars. May God bless each of you in a very special way.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
