Emma Jean Sauls Gurganus Langston Hare, 89, passed away at her home on Tuesday, March 12, 2024. Born in Wayne County on January 3, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Nathan Sauls and Nancy Perry Sauls.

In addition to her parents, Emma Jean is preceded in death by her husbands, Johnny Gurganus, Lynwood Langston, and Edward Hare; grandson, Robbie Lamm; and siblings, Melvin Sauls, Ruth Turnage, Gladys Sauls, Titus Sauls, and Johnnie Sauls.

Emma Jean is survived by her children, John Gurganus, Ken Gurganus, Nancy Gurganus, Pat Maddox, Connie White, Barbara Waddell, and Scott Langston; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.

Emma Jean could oftentimes be seen singing and cooking. Her love for singing and cooking was done more than just at home. She loved to carry food to those in need or at a rest home. Emma Jean loved being in the yard in her vegetable and flower gardens. She was a faithful member of Faro Chapel PFWB Church. She loved the Lord and it was evident in her everyday walk with the Lord.

A service to celebrate Emma Jean’s life will be held on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Faro Chapel PFWB Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 12 p.m. until 1 p.m. Internment will take place at Stantonsburg Cemetery.
