PIKEVILLE — On Sunday at 4:45 p.m., Wayne County deputies were dispatched to a shooting call on Brookside Way in Pikeville.
Upon arrival, deputies located one unresponsive victim outside of a residence. A neighbor was administering CPR to the victim and continued until EMS arrived on the scene. EMS transported the victim to the hospital and there is no update on the victim at this time.
The Sheriff’s Office SWAT team searched the home where the incident occurred to ensure there were no additional victims or suspects. Deputies were quickly able to identify the suspect, Rudolph I. Lofton, 29, Wilson, and located him in a field behind the houses.
Lofton was taken into custody and transported for questioning.
Lofton has been charged with Attempted 1st-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Lofton was given a $500,000.00 secured bond and is currently in the Wayne County Jail. The victim in
this case remains in critical condition at ECU Health.
