United Way of Wayne County will celebrate community volunteers during the Night Full of Heroes Volunteer Ceremony at the Paramount Theatre at 5:30 p.m. on Apr. 16.
The North Carolina Commission on Volunteering and Community Service has completed its selection of the Governor’s Volunteer Service Award recipients.
Ten final nominees submitted by Wayne County were selected to receive the award. They will be recognized at the Night Full of Heroes Volunteer Ceremony.
Each of the 10 nominees will receive a pin and certificate signed by Governor Roy Cooper.
Wayne County’s Medallion nominee was also selected as one of this year’s prestigious Medallion Awardees. All other nominees will also be recognized with a certificate from the United Way of Wayne County.
The Governor’s Volunteer Service Award was created to recognize these individuals’ significant contributions. Any person, group, or entity from the public, non-profit, and private sectors may be nominated for an award.
Each county may select up to ten individuals, businesses, groups/teams, and one paid Director of Volunteers to be recognized for their outstanding community contributions.
A local committee evaluates the nominations and selects ten nominees, one of which also gets nominated for the Governor’s Medallion Award for Volunteer Service, which is awarded to the top 20 volunteers in the state.
During the ceremony, United Way of Wayne County will acknowledge all the award nominees, recipients, and volunteer groups throughout Wayne County and encourage all nonprofit agencies to invite their volunteers to attend the event intended to highlight them.
“Volunteers are the hearts of our community. We thank the Paramount Theatre Foundation for their continued support in our effort to honor these selfless individuals,” said Sherry Archibald, Executive Director. The evening will begin with a meet and greet and hors d’oeuvres, promptly followed by the ceremony.
