James Lee Oliver, better known as J. L. Oliver, passed away just moments after time struck on Monday, April 8, 2024. Death came while he was being cared for at N. C. Veterans Home in Kinston. He was 76.
J. L. had been a builder and carpenter, had also worked at Goldsboro Fire Department, and had lent part-time assistance to Arnold-Wilbert Corporation. He was a veteran of the United States Army. In his spare time, he enjoyed nothing more than fishing.
Preceded in death by his parents, Lee Oliver and Addie Rae Jones Oliver; two sisters, Louise O. Bennett and Paulette Oliver; and two brothers, Charles Oliver and Ricky Oliver, he is survived by a daughter, Sherry Oliver of Greenville; a son, Brian Oliver of Rocky Mount; three sisters and their spouses, Lettie O. and Bill Reeves of Northport, Alabama, Lemoine O. and David Conner of Roanoke Rapids, and Sandra O. and Leroy Blizzard of Seven Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Friday, April 12, at 2:00 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Pineview Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
