On Friday at approximately 5 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a wooded area near the intersection of I-795 N and W. Ash St. for a report of a deceased person.

When officers arrived, they did locate a deceased male in the wooded area. The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau was contacted and responded to the scene to initiate an investigation.

The deceased has been identified as Richard Scott Lane, 40, of Goldsboro. The cause and manner of death are still under investigation.
