DUDLEY — Southern Wayne High School principal Karen Rogers has resigned, and the district is beginning its search process for a replacement.
Goldsborodailynews.com learned of Rogers’ regsignation on Friday morning in an email from Ken Derksen, the Executive Director for Community Engagement and Student & Family Support for Wayne County Public Schools.
Rogers began her education career in 1997 as an exceptional children’s teacher at Southern Wayne High. She worked in various education and school administration capacities and has served as principal of Southern Wayne High since July 1, 2022. Her resignation became effective Apr. 10.
Rogers previously served as principal at Rosewood High School. Rogers began her education career in 1997 as an exceptional children’s teacher at Southern Wayne High. Prior to being named principal of Rosewood High School in 2015, Rogers served as an assistant principal at Southern Wayne High, a Central Services Title I Leader Teacher, a Teaching and Learning Coach, and a Lead Teacher for Human Resources/Title II.
Rogers was also an exceptional children’s teacher at Tommy’s Road Elementary.
Rogers holds a bachelor’s degree in learning disabilities education, a master’s degree in education, a certification in school administration and a certification in elementary education.
“Wayne County Public Schools will be actively working to put in place an outstanding principal leader for Southern Wayne,” states Dr. Marc Whichard, superintendent. “In these closing weeks of school, it is our goal to help Southern Wayne High continue the great work and academic momentum happening each day in its classrooms.”
The district administration will continue working with the assistant principals, who are the acting school administrators, providing support to ensure staff and students successfully advance the mission of teaching and learning as we close out the school year.
