The Wayne County Veterans & Patriots Coalition is holding multiple events over Memorial Day Weekend to honor fallen soldiers.
At 8 a.m. on Saturday, a breakfast is being held at the American Legion Wayne Post 11 located at 2973 US Hwy 117 South. At 9 a.m., a Memorial Tribute to the fallen is being held with flag distribution to team leaders. CMSgt Paul Hammer III, Command Chief,4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, will be the guest speaker.
Flags will be distributed at Wayne Memorial Park, Wayne Memorial Park West, Elmwood, Willowdale, and Evergreen Cemeteries.
At 2:30 p.m. on Monday, the Observance of the National Moment of Silence will be held at the Wayne County Veterans Memorial, located at 239 East Walnut Street, in downtown Goldsboro. The guest of honor will be Isabel Carrasquillo, Gold Star Mother of Jocelyn L. Carrasquillo, who was killed in action in Iraq on Mar. 13, 2004.
There will also be a wreath laying at the Courthouse Doughboy.
