Service to Remember Fallen Veterans Held in Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE — On Sunday afternoon, members of VFW Post 9959 gathered along with guests in Maplewood Cemetery to honor fallen veterans ahead of Memorial Day.

VFW Post Commander James Benson opened the ceremony with a welcome to everyone. Following the opening ceremony VFW Chaplain, Reverend John Moore, led the invocation, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Steve Jones provided several songs with the last one being “God Bless the USA.” Benson introduced the guest speaker, Col. Kenneth Sullivan, Retired U.S. Army.

Following Col. Sullivan’s speech, VFW Commander James Benson along with Auxiliary President, Violet Saviak laid the Wreath, followed by lowering the flag to half-mast while Taps could be heard in the background. 

VFW Chaplin, reverend John Moore gave the benediction.
