Jay Womble, 88, of Goldsboro passed away at his residence Thursday. He was the son of the late Frank and Lelar Davis Womble and was married to the late Julie Blackmon Womble. Jay was a retired L.P. mechanic for Patetown Dixie. He enjoyed word search puzzles, smoking his pipe, watching M*A*S*H, Gun Smoke, or the Three Stooges on T.V., going to Carly C’s for lunch, telling a good joke, or just being at home. Jay loved to help people, so much so that he would take his neighbors’ trash off for them or bring them snacks, he would also meet the mail lady at the mailbox with a snack or bottle of water.

A service to celebrate Jay will be held on Sunday in the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Glenn Phillips officiating. Committal service will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Jay is survived by his children, Terry Womble Smith(Kenneth) of Pikeville and Tracy Womble Price(Jerry) of Lynchburg, VA; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Brantley Smith, Connor Price, Miranda Price, and Chelsea Billings; great grandchildren, Dalton Smith, Kayleigh Smith, Tatum Smith, C.J. Smith, Evie Price, and 2 more on the way; niece, Linda Petras; and special friends, Melanie Tripp, Charlie Van Hoy, Jimmy Rowe, and Susan James.

In addition to his wife, a son, Benny Jay “Ben” Womble, and his siblings, James, Frank, and Billy Womble, Alice Davis, Vernell Butler, and Nettie Tighe preceded him in death.
