Nora Mitchell Sasser, age 81, passed away on Monday, May 27th at Wayne UNC Healthcare. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Berry Mitchell and Smithie Hines Mitchell and the wife of the late Rev. Johnny Sasser. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Doris Burroughs. Nora was a member of Emmaus Baptist Church and attended Pikeville First Baptist Church, Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, and Love Memorial Baptist Church. She was active in the WMU, and Neuse Baptist Association, and very active with missions. She was a dedicated pastor’s wife supporting Rev. Johnny Sasser in all of his years of service. She was an instructional assistant at the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf and at Carver Elementary School.
A service to celebrate Nora’s life will be held on Saturday, June 1st at 2:00 pm at Emmaus Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Willoughby and Rev. Rick Mondell officiating. Burial will follow in Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends in the church fellowship hall immediately following the committal service.
Nora is survived by her son, Barry Sasser, and wife, April; her daughter, Brenda Sasser Ulrich and husband, Mike; her brothers, Arthur Mitchell and B.G. Mitchell; her sister, Eleanor Jordan; and three grandchildren, Matthew Sasser and wife, Destiny, Simon Sasser, and Caitlin Ulrich; along with several nieces and nephews.
