Robert Charles “Chuck” Woods

May 29, 2024, 91, Goldsboro —

Robert Charles “Chuck” Woods, 91, quietly departed this life for life eternal on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, surrounded by his family. Chuck was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Louis Woods and Marie Woods Stretzinger on September 25, 1932. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Woods Hyde.

A deep love for our country was engrained into Chuck’s being. After serving with the United States Air Force for 22 years, he retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. Chuck joined the Air Force in 1950 and was enlisted during the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force in 1972. Chuck’s valor and skill were recognized with numerous decorations. Following his military career, he began working for Eastman Kodak where he also retired.

Chuck’s family was at the forefront of all he did. The needs of his wife, children, and family were always placed before his own. He worked hard to be a good provider, husband, father, son, and brother. Chuck’s wife of 70 years was his best friend. The two spent countless evenings together dancing and talking about life. Time spent with her and their children was never wasted.

He had been a member for many years of the Elks Lodge and spent many hours in the company of friends there. Chuck loved to play cards and socialize with his friends.

A long-time resident of Wilmington, North Carolina, Chuck moved to Goldsboro to be near family after a period of declining health. While living in Goldsboro, he worshiped with the congregation at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Chuck Woods is survived by his wife, Peggy Jane Woods; three children, Beverley Woods, Cindy Retchin, and husband, Sander Retchin, and Robert Charles Woods, Jr. and wife, Noelle Woods; and his brother, Gerald Woods. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Trey Bland and wife Shannon, Kennedy Woods and fiancée Austin Sutton, and Bailey Woods.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, June 2, 2024, from 3:00 – 4:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Chuck’s life at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Bill Rose officiating. Full military honors will follow the service on the front lawn.

Flowers are welcome or memorials may be given in his memory to The First Church, 1100 The First Church Road, Goldsboro, NC 27534.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
