Peggy Uzzell Herring, 84, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2024, at UNC Health Wayne, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wayne County on August 3, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Bennie and Ruby Smith Uzzell.

In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Keith Herring, Sr.

Peggy is survived by her children, Gerald Keith Herring, Jr., Melanie Herring Woodard (Clint), Timothy Uzzell Herring (Wanda), and Angelia Herring Jones (Cleve); grandchildren. Paige Whitfield (Ryan), Scotty Boyette (Courtney), Courtney Grant (Kyle), Keith Jones, Janey Parks (Kyle), and Abby Jones; great-grandchildren, Lanie, Lillie, Luke, Everitt, Beckett, Maddie, Anna, Emmie, and Jude; and her beloved sister-in-law, Mary Ann Herring.

Peggy was a lifetime member of Casey’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She was very involved with her church, serving in many capacities over the years.

Along with her husband Keith, Peggy was co-owner and operator of Plunderosa Antiques in Goldsboro.

Never idle, Peggy was a lady on the go. She enjoyed being out and about with her family and friends. When at home, Peggy enjoyed reading, crafting, and puzzles.

Family was paramount to Peggy. She enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, all the while doing what she did best, being a dedicated mother and grandmother.

A graveside service to celebrate Peggy’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the Providence Church Cemetery with her pastor, Rev. Tony McLamb officiating. The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the church fellowship hall.
