Shawn Strickland, a resident of the Jacksonville area, and a native of East Pine Forest, Mount Olive, died early Tuesday morning, June 11, 2024, at ECU Hospital in Greenville. He was 50 years of age.
Shawn’s working career which ended with his becoming disabled due to illness, had been with the N. C. Department of Transportation for which he operated road maintenance equipment. He had been an avid sports enthusiast, particularly loving the game of hockey. He had also served as a coach for area children with softball and tee-ball at Calypso Recreation.
Shawn is survived by his wife, Korene Mader Strickland; his father, Larry R. Strickland of Mount Olive; three children, Caroline S. Stovall with husband, Jason, of Ohio, Dylan Strickland with Shelby, of Mount Olive, and Christopher “Bubba” Strickland with Anna, of Goldsboro; four grandchildren, Daylah, Jackson, and Paisley Strickland, and Sage Stovall; a brother, Larry Ray Strickland II with wife, Stephanie, of Mount Olive; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Wanda Jones Strickland; and a brother, Chris Strickland.
Funeral services will be Thursday, June 13, at 6:00 p.m. at Tyndall Funeral Home. Pastor Alan Ossewaardd will preside. Visitation will follow the service. Burial will take place at Wayne Memorial Park on Friday, June 14, following a committal service at 12:00 Noon.
