Arrest Made in June 5 Homicide

On June 5 at approximately 5:47 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to a report of shots being fired in the 1600 block of S. John Street.

Upon arriving in the area, officers located Tysher Davis, 18, Goldsboro, with an apparent gunshot wound and rendered aid. EMS responded and transported the victim to UNC Health Wayne for treatment.

Davis was transferred to ECU Health in Greenville for further treatment.

During the response to the shooting on S. John Street, a subsequent call was received regarding an unresponsive subject in the 300 block of Hollowell Avenue.

Officers arrived in the area and located a vehicle occupied by Vorteryahj Sanders, 21, Dudley, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Sanders was subsequently pronounced deceased.

The Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to both scenes. During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Sanders, located in the 300 block of Hollowell Street, was also involved in the incident in the 1600 block of John Street.

Davis and Sanders were known to each other and are believed to have been involved in a confrontation prior to the shooting incident.

During the course of this investigation, and after consultation with the Wayne County District Attorney’s office, it was determined that Davis would be charged with an open count of Murder in the death of Sanders.

Davis surrendered himself to law enforcement on Friday at approximately 4:30 p.m. without incident.

Davis was taken to the Wayne County Magistrate’s Office, where the warrant was served, and he was left in the custody of the Wayne County Detention Center under no bond, pending a first appearance on Monday.
