Raymond W. Gorum, Sr., 77, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2024, at his home. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on July 24, 1946, to the late Alexander and Mary Mason Gorum.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was preceded in death by his brothers, John Gorum and Alexander Gorum; and father-in-law, Anderson Cuffee.
Raymond is survived by his devoted wife, Vernice Gorum; daughter, Vernice “Princess” Gorum; son, Raymond Gorum, II and wife, Ebony; grandchildren, Mariah Gorum, Alexandra Gorum, and Rashawn Wright; sisters, Shirley Cambridge and husband, Calvin, Evelina Failla and husband, Robert, and Isadora Blount; mother-in-law, Dorothea Brown Cuffee; and sister-in-law, Patricia Gorum.
Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of Corporal. Raymond showed dedication in everything he did.
While serving his country he earned the following medals:

After his honorable discharge, Raymond dedicated himself to his community as the respected “neighborhood dad” and built a successful career as a salesman with Life Savers Candy Company, earning multiple top awards for his service and salesmanship
Known for his meticulous nature, Raymond was a loving family man who prioritized his family and was admired for his integrity and hard work. He liked everything clean, neat, and tidy. Just take a look at his cars, you could return them to the dealership after 8 years and they will still look brand new.
Raymond W. Gorum Sr. was everything you would want in a son, husband, father, grandfather, friend, or co-worker. To know him was to love him and if you didn’t love him you had the utmost respect for him.
A service to celebrate Raymond’s life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, in the chapel of Seymour Funeral Home with his son, Raymond Gorum, II officiating. Interment with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery. Raymond will lie in state from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 28, 2024, at Seymour Funeral Home.
