June 22, 2024, 81, Goldsboro —
Glenn Hartley, 81, departed this life for life eternal on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center surrounded by his family. Glenn was born in Wayne County to the late Jake and Louise Hartley on November 9, 1942. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Hartley.
Glenn had been an employee of Horne Moving Systems before beginning his career with the State of North Carolina at the Cherry Research Farm. He retired after 25 years of service with Cherry.
With a dry sense of humor, Glenn’s wittiness was a trait that could keep you in stitches. From the way he would say certain words to the phrases he’d use to describe situations, Glenn’s way with words kept a smile on your face. Even when he was fussing, there was plenty of humor involved. When something caught his attention, you didn’t have to guess where he stood on the matter. Instantaneously, his view would be expressed. And, as always, you’d get a little chuckle.
Wanting to maintain the traditions of the past, Glenn had a deep love for the old way of doing things. He enjoyed talking to old timers and learning their ways, always eager to gain knowledge and continue the legacy.
Though Goldsboro became home, Glenn remained deeply connected to his roots in Grantham. As often as possible, he’d travel to the store to visit with friends and family, always carrying a load of whatever was coming off in the garden. Just as he loved learning the skills of the generations before, he poured his knowledge into his son and grandchildren, making sure they learned the lessons from his childhood.
The family will receive friends on Friday, June 28, 2024, from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Seymour Funeral Home followed by a service to celebrate Glenn’s life at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel with Rev. Franklin Lane officiating.
Glenn is survived by his son, Scott Hartley; grandchildren, Ryan Hartley and Jessica Hartley; brother, Jesse R. Hartley (Jennifer) of Goldsboro; sisters, Doris H. Peele (David) of Goldsboro and Kathy Tyner (Michael Turnage) of Goldsboro; sister-in-law, Amy H. Hartley of Goldsboro; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins he loved very much. He is also survived by his faithful k-9 friend, PeeWee.
The family would like to express their appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the staff at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
