James Leslie Thompson, 64, left a void in the hearts of many as he departed this life for life eternal on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. James was born in Durham County to the late Graham Kent Thompson and Mary Virginia Currin Thompson on July 12, 1959.

James attended Goldsboro High School. As a young man, he was a boxer. As a father, James had great pride in his daughter, Brittany. Throughout his life, James loved his pets, especially his dogs. Getting together with family was a highlight for James, especially when food and storytelling were involved. Grateful for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, James lived his faith openly, was readily able to quote scripture, and always wanted to be involved in church.

James is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Brittany and Ryan Butts; grandchildren, Sophia, Eliza, and Luke Butts; brothers, J. Scott Thompson and wife, Mary Nell, G. Kent Thompson Jr. and wife, Maureen, and Gene Currin Thompson; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins he loved very much.

A private service for the family will be held at a later date.

Services are entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
