Lillie Mae Reid

Lillie Mae Reid

July 18, 2024, 98, Greensboro —

With Sincere Compassion and Understanding, we, the Management and staff of Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors, join with the Reid and connected families to announce the earthly departure of Mrs. Lillie Mae Reid, 98, formerly of Goldsboro, NC. Mrs. Reid transitioned at home in Greensboro, NC, surrounded by her loving family.

Mother Lillie Mae Reid entered earth’s atmosphere on November 25, 1925, on assignment in Wayne County.  The assignment was completed on July 18, 2024, at home surrounded by the family, when the heavenly angels escorted her to her heavenly home after a short illness. We (family and friends) were blessed to have her with us for 98 years.  She was the daughter of the late Levie and Rushie Bradberry Jones Stokes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Reid, two sisters, Lucinda and Lena, and seven brothers, Thomas, Henry, Jasper Lee, J.B., Leamon, Elijah, and Leroy.

Mother Reid attended Wayne County Schools.

She accepted Christ early and joined Hooks Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She later joined Elm Grove Disciple of Christ Church, now known as the Throne Room, where she was a devoted and faithful member for over seventy-one years. She loved God and doing his work and her church family. She served faithfully on the kitchen committee, mother’s board, and the willing worker’s committee as an usher, along with visiting the sick.

Upon moving to Greensboro, Mother Reid found a new church home at New Jerusalem Tabernacle, where she was dearly loved. Known affectionately as Mama Reid, she cherished the warm embraces and genuine love shown to her by everyone in the congregation. Her quiet, loving nature left a lasting impact on all who knew her.

Mother Reid’s heart was as pure as gold. Her character mirrored the woman described in the book of Proverbs. She never hesitated to help those in need, always offering her assistance with love and without expecting anything in return. She saw others through God’s eyes and shared her love through her passion for quilting and cooking. Her collards, chicken pastry, and sweet potato pudding were eagerly anticipated by all. Her love for God and family will forever be etched in our hearts, and she truly embodied the spirit of a woman of God.

Mother Reid leaves to treasure her precious and loving memories four children:  Leonard (Pastor Shirley), Hodges, Ruby (David), Williams, both of Goldsboro, NC,  Minister Linda (Bishop Melvin), Jones of Greensboro, NC, and Brenda (E.T.) Wooten of Grand Prairie, Texas.  Twelve grandchildren, Gloria, Norris, Marrell, Linwood, Tony, Edward Ray, Tamika, Melvin Jr., Tonia, Tanesha, Eric and Cory. Twenty-six great-grandchildren, nineteen great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends, including extended family members, Prince and Mary Parson and Noah Harvey, along with close friends, Mother Core and Mother Cox.

Services of Love & Compassionate Care have been entrusted to Williams & Ashford Funeral Directors and Cremations, LLC.
