Latest Update on Debby Shows Decreased Projected Rain Totals

Latest Update on Debby Shows Decreased Projected Rain Totals

The County of Wayne issued an update on Tropical Storm Debby on Wednesday afternoon, with projected rain totals for Wayne County between 4 and 6 inches.

This reduction in total rain has lowered the forecasted river levels into the weekend with only minor river flooding expected now. Currently, the Neuse is expected to crest at 18.6 feet on Sunday evening.

Flash flooding is still a risk and residents should be cautious during travel as the storm approaches our area. Never drive through a flooded roadway.

Wind gusts between 25 and 40 mph are expected late Thursday into Friday.

While flooding will be the primary hazard, the wind coupled with the saturated ground could cause trees to fall, leading to downed trees and power outages.

Do not call 911 to report a power outage. Please report outages to your utility provider.

There is also the possibility of isolated, weak tornados from Thursday into Friday, as Wayne County is on the east side of the storm’s circulation.

Wayne County remains under a flood watch until 9 p.m. on Friday.
