ASHEBORO — Wayne County Post 11 scored nine unanswered runs over the final four innings and rallied for a 13-8 win over Chesapeake, Va. on Saturday afternoon in the American Legion Southeast Regional at McCrary Park in Asheboro.
Wayne County (43-10) trailed 8-4 in the fifth inning before John McClamb’s RBI double cut the deficit to 8-5. Drew Sweet added an RBI single, and Lawson Tyndall drew a bases-loaded walk to pull Post 11 to within 8-7.
Casey Culbreth scored on a Chesapeake error in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game at 8-8.
McLamb’s RBI double in the top of the eighth inning put Post 11 ahead 9-8. Culbreth drew a bases-loaded walk and Tyndall reached on an error that allowed another run to score.
Miles Hamm added a sacrifice fly that pushed Wayne County’s lead to 13-8.
Ayden West pitched 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief to earn the win on the mound. West allowed three hits, with four walks and four strikeouts.
Post 11 has won eight of its last nine games dating back to the North Carolina American Legion state tournament which began on July 20 in Cherryville.
In those eight wins, Wayne County has averaged 8.6 runs.
Post 11 advanced to face Troy, AL at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. Troy defeated Covington, GA on Saturday night, and is the lone undefeated team remaining in the regional.

A Wayne County victory would force a winner-take-all game with Troy, and the winner would advance to the American Legion World Series in Shelby. The World Series is being held Aug. 15-20.
