August 12, 2024, 86, Mount Olive —

Mrs. Elsie Hollingsworth Herring, 86, a long-time resident of the Rones Chapel community near Mount Olive, passed away early Monday morning, August 12, 2024, at her home.

Born in Sampson County, she graduated with the class of 1956 from Halls High School.  Aside from being a homemaker, she had been employed at Butterball for a number of years.

Mrs. Herring is survived by her son, David Carroll Herring, of the home; two nieces, Phyllis Davis Burke of Jeffersonton, Va., and Lizette Gunkel of Florida; and a nephew, Jeffrey Davis of Manassas, Va.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lonnie F. and Thelma Thornton Hollingsworth; and her siblings, Magdaline H. Davis, David Hollingsworth, Annette Hollingsworth, Daniel Hollingsworth, and Minva Hollingsworth.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 15, from 6 until 7:30 pm at Tyndall Funeral Home. 

Private graveside services will be at Wayne Memorial Park.
