Harold Lee Barnes, Sr., 78 of 737 Forehand Road, Pikeville, North Carolina mounted his John Deere on Sunday, August 18, 2024, and with the assistance of heavenly angels was escorted to till the soil at his heavenly home.

He was born to Molton and Alberta Barnes on September 21, 1945, in Goldsboro, North Carolina.

Harold was a dedicated employee of Thurston Motor Lines and Barnes Motor Lines in Wilson, NC. He retired from Dillon Supply Company, Goldsboro, NC. He was a 1964 graduate of Dillard High School in Goldsboro, NC.

Harold has been married for 56 years to the love of his life, Elizabeth Martin Barnes. Through this union, they were blessed with one son, Harold Lee Barnes, Jr.

He united with Mt. Calvary M.B. Church at an early age and was an active member of the Trustee and Usher Boards. After his retirement, he united with The First Pentecostal Holiness Church, Goldsboro, NC.

Harold was an avid gardener. He loved planting, growing, and harvesting his crops. However, he received the most joy by sharing the bounty with family and friends. He could navigate you through any city, town, or state across America with or without an Atlas. He was kind, giving, resolute in his beliefs, and possessed an immense love for his family.

Harold is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Martin Barnes; one son, Harold (Shena) Lee Barnes, Jr., and one grandson, Jamell Beamon of Goldsboro, NC. One sister, Colette (William) Howard, Greensboro, NC, and two brothers, Carl (BiBi) Barnes, Rosedale, NY, and Winston (Willette) Barnes, Greensboro, NC. A brother-in-law, James (Sandra) Martin, Hampton, VA; and two sisters-in-law, Barbara Hatten and Wanda (James) Lewis, of Goldsboro, NC, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a friend who has become family, Dr. Earl W. Moore, Jr. Also, his “best buddy,” canine friend, Bruno.

A service to celebrate his life will be held Friday, August 23, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church in Goldsboro with Pastor Bill Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park in Dudley. The family will receive friends Thursday evening, August 22, 2024, from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Howell Funeral Home & Crematory in Goldsboro with Masonic Rites beginning at 7:30 p.m.
