Gregory Maurice Hemby II, born on April 9th, 1983, transitioned on July 26, 2024. He was the son of Mother-Regina Crawford Hemby (deceased) and Father-Gregory Hemby on April 9th, 1983 at Howard University Hospital in Washington DC. Gregory was a beloved father. His memory will forever live on in his Son-Omari Maurice Hemby.
Gregory was a beloved brother. He left behind Sister-Nina Renee Crawford and Brother-Jermaine Eugene Hemby.
Gregory blessed the world with his vibrant attitude, protective presence, and keen knowledge (multiple subjects and areas of study). Gregory graduated from Goldsboro High School in Goldsboro, NC. After graduating from high school, Gregory continued his education and attended Lenoir-Rhyne College in Asheville, NC.
At the young age of 9 years old, Gregory showed his wisdom and intelligence by winning an HBO TV sweepstakes contest for the cartoon show “The Adventures of Tintin.” The prize for winning this sweepstakes was a 1st class trip to Brussels, Belgium, for 4 to a 5-star hotel and a week at a space camp. (To explain the contest: every week for 2-3 months, during the new episode of the cartoon Tintin on HBO cable TV, letters would appear on the screen (that spelled a word or phrase). Only ONCE. You write down your answer and mail it in. Gregory did this for a period of time and Mom helped him mail it. He WON!)
Gregory was a sports guy in addition to his intelligence. Growing up throughout his adolescent years, Gregory also played all types of sports, including basketball, baseball, and football. In high school, Goldsboro High School, Gregory was named to the 2001 News-Argus all-area boys basketball team. That achievement and others, plus his sports guy athleticism and skills helped him get the scholarship to Lenoir-Rhyne College.
