Saturday morning firefighters from Mar-Mac and EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene of a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of 117 Bypass and 117 Alt near the fairground.

As fire personnel arrived on the scene they found a pickup truck had collided with a jeep in the intersection.

The driver of the pickup truck was taken to the hospital for further medical evaluation. 

The intersection was blocked by both vehicles and firefighters had to sit up traffic control through the scene.

The driver of the jeep who wasn’t injured in the crash remained on the scene waiting for the Highway Patrol to
arrive on the scene.

The jeep was heading north on 1117 bypass approaching the intersection when the pickup truck heading south on
117 Bypass attempted to make a left hand turn onto 117 Alt in front of the oncoming traffic when the two vehicles collided at the intersection.

The accident is being investigated by the North Carolina Highway Patrol.
