October 8, 2024, 90, Goldsboro —
Annie Worrell Smith, 90, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Wayne County, on August 27, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Charles “Charlie” and Nora Eason Worrell. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron “Catfish” Smith; along with three brothers and one sister.
Annie is survived by her sons, Charles (Vickie) Smith, Ray (Wilma) Smith, James Smith (of the home), and daughter, Tammie Smith Hill; grandchildren, Adam Smith, Ashley (Bobby) Daniels, Randy (Rachael) Smith, Heather (Lee) Waters, and Summer (Patrick) Hollowell; ten great-grandchildren; siblings, Leonard “Jay” Worrell, Joyce (Bob) Ganus, Linda Ethridge, and Nora “Janet” Thompson (Luby); one sister-in-law, Glennie Worrell; and several nieces and nephews.
Annie relished being a farmer’s wife working alongside her husband. She enjoyed the simple things, especially the opportunity to wet a fishing line, waiting for the next tug from her next catch.
A caretaker by nature, she took care of everyone she knew and showed them that, whether through her contagious love or through their stomachs. That same love she expressed was shared by everyone who ever met Mammie, and she quickly became known as, to anybody who ever met her.
A graveside service to celebrate Annie’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at the Newsome Cemetery on Hood Swamp Road, with niece, Carrie Hardin, officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at Seymour Funeral Home and at other times at her daughter’s home.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff of Gentiva Hospice; specifically Amanda Mooring.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
