A suspect has been arrested in connection with a pair of recent robberies at a Family Dollar and Boost Mobile in Goldsboro.
On Oct. 10, 2024, at approximately 9:19 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to the Family Dollar in the 2500 block of E. Ash Street for a report of a robbery.
A male suspect entered the store and took several packs of cigarettes without paying. When confronted, the suspect attempted to spray an employee with pepper spray. The suspect then fled the area.
On Oct. 11 at approximately 8:51 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to the Family Dollar in the 1400 block of Wayne Memorial Drive for a report of a robbery and stabbing.
The employees reported that a male suspect entered the store and sprayed a male employee with bug spray.
The suspect then assaulted a female employee, Jennifer Williams, 38, Kinston, in an attempt to access the store’s safe.
The male employee, Carl Castille, 25, attempted to intervene and was subsequently stabbed.
The suspect then fled the scene without obtaining any currency. Wiliams and Castille sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
On Oct. 16, at approximately 1 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department responded to Boost Mobile in the 700 block of E. Ash Street for a report of a robbery.
Employees reported that a male suspect entered the business and brandished a knife.
The suspect demanded money from the register.
The employee gave the suspect U.S. currency and fled to the back room. The suspect attempted to pepper spray the employee before fleeing the scene on foot.
The Goldsboro Police Department’s Investigative Services Bureau initiated investigations into all the listed incidents.
As a result of the investigation, warrants were secured against Odell Larry Sheffield Jr. on Friday.
On Friday, at approximately 9 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department’s Patrol Division located Sheffield in the 400 block of S. George Street.
Sheffield was taken into custody and was served with his warrants. The charges are as follows:

1 count Attempted Robbery With Dangerous Weapon – No Bond
1 count Common Law Robbery – $50,000 Secure Bond
1 count Assault With Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury- No Bond
1 count Assault Inflicting Serious Bodily Injury – No Bond
1 count Order for Arrest – Possession Drug Paraphernalia – $4,000 Secure Bond
1 count Assault Government Official – $50,000 Secure Bond
1 count Assault on Law Enforcement Officer with Physical Injury – $50,000 Secure Bond
Sheffield is currently being held at the Wayne County Jail awaiting a first appearance for the listed charges. The first appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday.
