October 20, 2024, 80, Pikeville —
Charles George Fitch, 80, of Pikeville, NC went to rest in the arms of Jesus on Sunday, October 20, 2024, at UNC Wayne in Goldsboro. He was born in Ohio to Arthur Wilson and Virginia Penberthy Fitch on March 15, 1944.
Charles served his country in the military which brought him to Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. After his service, he became a successful salesman for Smith Hardware where he would later retire.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Everett Fitch, and sisters, Beverly Holt and Sandra McGiton.
Charles never met a stranger, and he made many friends along his life’s journey. An avid golfer, he spent many days on the course of Lane Tree Golf Club. The friendships he made there were cherished by all as they became his family in addition to his loving church family at Pleasant Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church.
In the later days of Charles’s life, he had a special bond with his dog Buddy. Everyone in Pikeville and surrounding areas loved to see the two of them coming and enjoyed their visits on many of their daily walks.
He is survived by all who were blessed to know this special man, especially his niece, Tina Myers, and extended family members in Ohio.
A graveside service in his honor will be this Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 4:30 in the afternoon at Pikeville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to Wayne County Animal Services or Pleasant Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
A very special thank you is given to the wonderful staff at UNC Wayne for the love and care they provided for Charles during his final days. Simple words cannot express our gratitude. Also, a thank you to the special caregivers in the ICU at UNC Wayne.
