October 18, 2024, 82, Goldsboro —
Linda Evans Kornegay, 82, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024, at The Ridge at Pikeville. Born in Wayne County on January 25, 1942, Linda was the daughter of the late Gurney Lee Evans and Hazel Wiggs Evans.
Linda was a member of Rosewood First Baptist Church where she could be found singing in the choir. In addition to the church choir, Linda was a member of the III Century Singers. Linda enjoyed harmonizing with her fellow singers, where the melodies filled their hearts with hope and joy. Linda often found solace in playing her piano. The gentle notes spilled from her fingertips as she balanced her day-to-day hustle, acting as both a release and a celebration of life.
At home, the aroma of her home-cooked meals wafted through the air, a culinary symphony of flavors that marked family gatherings as cherished events. Linda relished the laughter of her children around the dining table, cooking with love and turning every meal into a feast. Beyond the joys of home and church, Linda had an undeniable bond with animals. Her quaint backyard resembled a haven for furry and feathered friends where the birds sang sweetly in the trees. Linda always understood the beauty of connection beyond human companionship.
For Linda, life was a harmonious blend of faith, family, music, and compassion that transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who crossed her path. She wasn’t just living her passions; she was weaving a tapestry of love and laughter that embraced not only her family but an entire community.
Linda is survived by her husband of 64 years, Bobby Rex Kornegay; sons, Stuart Kornegay, Jeffrey Kornegay and wife, Michele, and Michael Kornegay and wife, Susan; her grandchildren, Nathan Kornegay and wife, Mary Kate, Charlotte Kornegay, Rachael Kornegay, Evan Kornegay and Emily Kornegay.
In addition to her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her sisters, Janie Jackson and Donnie Mayo.
