RALEIGH – Michael Amon of Goldsboro got so excited he could barely speak on Saturday after he won a $150,000 Powerball prize.
“I was speechless,” he laughed. “I didn’t believe it until I got here today.”
Amon bought his lucky $3 Quick Pick ticket from the Sheetz on U.S. 70 West in Goldsboro.
He matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball to win $50,000. Because he bought a Power Play ticket, his prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier hit.
“I was tickled to death,” Amon said. “If you don’t play, you aren’t going to win.”
He arrived at lottery headquarters on Wednesday to claim his winnings and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $107,251.
Amon said he plans to buy a car, a house, and help his family out.
