A suspect was arrested on Tuesday morning in Goldsboro following a shooting on Saturday evening that resulted in the death of a 26-year-old Goldsboro man.
On Saturday at approximately 9:22 p.m., officers with the Goldsboro Police Department and deputies with the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a ShotSpotter alert and 911 calls in the 800 block of Newsome St.
When officers arrived, they located Daquan Almanta Simms, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Simms was transported to UNC Health Wayne for treatment. He was subsequently flown to ECU Health in Greenville for further treatment.
On Sunday, the Goldsboro Police Department received notice from ECU Health that Simms had succumbed to the injuries he sustained from this incident.
As a result of the investigation, a suspect was developed. A warrant for arrest was secured for Brian Levert Blount, 38, for one count of murder and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon.
On Tuesday at 10:40 a.m., Blount was taken into custody without incident in the 100 block of Wood Peck Road in Goldsboro by members of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office and Goldsboro Police Department.
He was subsequently taken before a Magistrate and received no bond pending a first appearance in court.
He was placed in the custody of the Wayne County Detention Center.
