As mandated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the City of Goldsboro’s Engineering Department has completed a comprehensive inventory of water service lines throughout the city to determine if any pipes in our system contain lead. We are pleased to report that no lead service lines were found in our system.

As part of the EPA’s requirements, the City will send notifications to more than 8,000 households with service lines made of galvanized material and those with service lines whose material composition is currently unknown.

These notices are not a cause for alarm; they are designed to inform residents about the type of service lines connected to their properties. Service lines containing galvanized material will have to be replaced, although no timetable has been given by the EPA. Lines with unknown material composition will have to be identified.

Letters will begin going out on Frida.

“It’s important to note that our water is safe,” said Jonathan Perry, the City of Goldsboro’s engineering services manager. “Goldsboro is joining systems across the country in completing this process to ensure that we maintain the highest water quality standards for all our residents.”
