MOUNT OLIVE – The University of Mount Olive has awarded senior accounting major Macy Parkhurst the prestigious 2024 Founders Leadership Award.
This honor, presented each year during the Founders Day service, is awarded in memory of the late Dr. W. Burkette Raper, who served as President of Mount Olive College from 1954 to 1995.
The scholarship, given to a senior in the traditional undergraduate program, recognizes a student who exemplifies outstanding character and leadership qualities, aligning with the founders’ vision of a Christian higher education institution.
Parkhurst, known for her exemplary leadership, dedication, and service to the UMO community, was chosen by a committee comprising faculty, student, and staff representatives.
“Macy exemplifies the values of leadership, service, and commitment to the University of Mount Olive community,” said Assistant Dean for the Tillman School of Business, Waylon Woodall. “As the president of the Accounting Society, she has played a pivotal role in organizing meetings and planning service projects that engage and benefit her peers. Her proactive approach fosters collaboration and encourages students to participate in meaningful initiatives and networking opportunities.”
In addition to her leadership within the Accounting Society, Parkhurst’s career achievements stand out.
She secured multiple internships, accepted full-time employment at Atlantic Casualty, and was admitted to a prestigious graduate accounting program.
Parkhurst’s professional accomplishments and dedication to academic excellence inspire other students to pursue success.
Furthermore, her years of service as a UMO admissions representative and Public Relations intern reflect her commitment to the University.
“Macy is the epitome of the Founders Leadership Award,” said Rhonda Jessup, Director of Public Relations and Parkhurst’s former supervisor. “Throughout her college experience, she has immersed herself in all things UMO. She is the perfect example of how students can make their UMO experience their own by being active and engaged. Macy truly has the heart and mind of a Trojan. Her contributions have greatly enriched the University community, leaving a legacy that will resonate for years to come.”
