Philip Ray Hill

November 17, 2024, 82, Kenly —

Philip Ray Hill, 82, passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at the SECU Hospice House in Smithfield surrounded by his loving family. Born in Johnston County on August 17, 1942, he was the son of the late Tonie Hill and Ludie Edwards Hill.

Philip was such a remarkable person both inside and out. As a long-time member and deacon, he played a crucial role in the spiritual life of his congregation. His leadership and guidance helped to strengthen the community, fostering an environment of love, support, and faith.

Philip always believed that family is the cornerstone of happiness. From his early childhood, he was surrounded by warmth and love from his parents and siblings. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was celebrating birthdays, sharing meals, or simply enjoying time spent with each other. These moments instilled in him a profound respect for family values.

Philip found great joy in fishing and hunting, often spending weekends immersed in nature and casting lines. These activities not only provided him with a sense of adventure but also allowed him to connect deeply with the outdoors, unwind from daily stresses, and bond with friends and family who shared his passion. Philip took great pride in teaching his grandson Chase, the apple of his eye, how to hunt and fish as they both shared a love for the outdoors. He spent every morning at Brewers Grocery and Grill with a cup of coffee and breakfast around the table with the locals, which was the highlight of his day.

Philip is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mollie Sue Brewer Hill; his daughter, Renee Crocker and husband, Jeff; his grandson, Chase Crocker and his sister, Jeri Lewis.

In addition to his parents, Philip was preceded in death by his sister, Josephine Parrish, and his brothers, Ralph Hill, Braxton Hill, and Billy Wayne Hill.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at New Jerusalem Free Will Baptist Church in Kenly. A service to celebrate Philip’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with Pastor Danny Creech officiating. Interment will conclude in the church cemetery.

Services have been entrusted to Kenly Funeral Service.
