November 13, 2024, 84, Kenly —
Robert Irvin Davis, known by his close friends and family as Pic, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on November 13, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Wilson County on March 14, 1940, he was the son of the late Avery Winston Davis and Iva Thornhill Davis.
In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by his brother, Sam Davis; and sister, Sylvia Wall.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Betty Lou Peele Davis; daughter Tammy Johnson, husband Allen, and son Matt Davis, wife Heather; grandchildren, Ashley McGee, husband William, Samantha Davis, and Avery Davis; great-grandchildren, Paisley and Aubrey McGee; sisters-in-law, Joyce Moore, husband Dennis, and Doris Peele; brother-in-law, Jimmy Peele, and many nieces and nephews.
For 6 years, Robert served his country in the United States Army as an MP, during which time he was deployed to Korea. A deep love for our country was ingrained into Robert. He was proud of his service and to be an American. After his time in the Army, Robert had a 33-year career with Carolina Telephone until he retired in 1999. When not working, Robert spent his free time outside. He loved golfing, fishing, gardening, and piddling in his shop; but his favorite pastime was watching his purple martins nest and make a home. The sound of them singing was music to his ears.
For Robert, nothing was more important in his life than his family. His love for his family knew no bounds and each moment he spent together with them was a memory he would cherish forever. His greatest joy was his grandchildren. No matter the occasion, whether it was a ballgame or a school event, you can guarantee that Robert was going to be there with Lou right by his side. Robert will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
